THOR on Dancing With The Stars

THOR on Dancing With The Stars

Ok, so he wasn't quite THOR at the time, but in the fall of 2006, Chris Hemsworth competed on season 5 of Australia's Dancing with the Stars.

The man who would become the God of Thunder was paired up with professional dancer, Abbey Ross, and came in at 6th place (out of 10).

At the time, Hemsworth was starring in the Australian soap opera, Home and Away as the character Kim Hyde. Hemsworth was on Home and Away from 2004 to 2007 and logged 185 episodes.
Home and Away is still on the air and can be seen on Australia's SEVEN NETWORK, Monday - Thursday at 7pm.

The next time we'll see Chris Hemsworth on the big screen will be in September when he'll play Formula One driver James Hunt in Ron Howard's RUSH

Stan Lee sends message to Bulletproof Spider-Man

Stan Lee sends message to Bulletproof Spider-Man

Our Generalissimo, Stan Lee, heard that one of the teens injured at the recent Taft High School shooting is a Spider-Man fan and sent him a special message.

16 year old, Bowe Cleveland suffered injuries to his chest and abdomen on January 10th after police say he was shot by a classmate at the incident at Taft High School. Students of Taft High School have nicknamed him "Bulletproof Spider-Man" and even wore Spidey shirts and red and blue clothes in his honor when they returned to school.

“You know, I’ve been told that you’re a big fan of mine and I want you to know that means a lot to me. So I’m sending you this message to let you know my thoughts and prayers are with you, as are the thoughts and prayers of all of Marveldom assembled, as well as the brave Brigadiers of POW! So never forget, you’ve got a whole superhero section rooting for you.” Lee also said that he would be sending Bowe some autographed posters and comics so could enjoy them while recovering.

Grandpa Stan, you're the greatest.

Amazing Spider-Man #700!

Amazing Spider-Man #700!

It's been a week since this was released and I've had some time to sit with it and read it a few times.  I completely understand how people have gotten their underoos all up in a bunch and are all sorts of mad at Dan Slott. I, on the other hand, don't hate it and thought the writing, art, and pacing was better than some of the other recent issues of ASM.  My only problem with it is that I don't think its entirely worthy of being the "final" issue of ASM.

If you don't like spoilers, you can stop reading now and go check out some other articles or tweet me telling me how much I suck at this or that.

We finally see why "The Amazing Spider-Man" is finished and the "Superior Spider-Man" is being born - the Peter Parker we know and love dies in ASM700.  *Cue tears and shouts of anger* I hope you weren't shocked. It was bound to happen.  How many other iconic superheroes have died? Spider-Man isn't safe from death either.  There's a scene with Uncle Ben that foreshadows the ending and I spent the rest of the book going "Where is it? Where is it? Boom. There it is."

So the guy we know as Peter Parker is currently dead and Otto Octavius is currently doing the meat puppet thing and is inside of Peter's body. He takes up the mantle of Spider-Man and decides he's going to do it better than Peter ever could and be, you guessed it, the Superior Spider-Man.  Two plot devices we've seen done before; kill the main character and make the bad guy into a good guy.  Not exactly where I would have liked to see a fifty year old title end.  After 50 years, 700 issues, we get an arc that lasts 3 issues and ends with 2 cliches. I would go as far to argue that the Spider-Island or Ends of the Earth story lines would have been a better ways to end the title if the numbering had worked out that way.

Despite some really great moments with Mary Jane and J. Jonah Jameson, I don't consider ASM 700 a new high or even a new low for the title. Just another middle.

Which cover did you pick up?

The Amazing Spider-Man 2's Growing Cast List [UPDATED SOME MORE!]

The Amazing Spider-Man 2's Growing Cast List [UPDATED SOME MORE!]

Everyone's favorite wall crawler is getting ready for production and the cast list is growing.

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will be returning as Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy.  Shailene Woodley, known for her roles on television's The Secret Life of the American Teenager and 2011's The Descendants,  has been confirmed for TASM-2 and will likely be involved in TASM-3. Director, Marc Webb, is reportedly still working Jamie Foxx over to sign him on as Electro.  JAMIE FOXX is confirmed as Electro.

[UPDATE!!!!!]

Dane DeHaan was recently announced for the role of Harry Osbourne. Yeah I guess we didn't see that one coming either, Hollywood Reporter.
You might remember DeHaan playing Timbo, the werepanther, in season 4 of True Blood.

And not that it really matters, but Kirsten Dunst has given her approval of Shailene Woodley being cast as Mary Jane Watson. At least we know they're both pretty decent people.
"I really like her, a lot...I've met her a few times and we've talked about health foods, we know some of the same people, she's really into finding springs and natural water and she'll go get her water and things like that. I've done that before, and we've talked about that. I think she's a sweetheart and such a good actress.
"I'm happy, If I had to pick someone, I'm happy she's following in my shoes."

[UPDATED AGAIN]

Paul Giamatti, considered one of the greatest character actors in Hollywood, is in talks to play Aleksei Sytsevich, THE RHINO!
British actress, Felicity Jones, is in talks for an unspecified role. Maybe Felicia Hardy? Betty Brant? Debra Whitman? Liz Allan?

UPDATED SOME MORE!!

Chris Cooper has been cast as Norman Osbourne. Fans of the Spider-Man franchise are already familiar with Norman Osbourne as the father of Peter Parker's friend Harry Osbourne and the Green Goblin.  No word yet if he'll be wearing green and flying through the sky. If he does, we hope that he doesn't look like a rejected Power Ranger that we saw in the previous film series.

SO TO RECAP:

Andrew Garfield - Peter Parker/Spiderman
Emma Stone - Gwen Stacy
Sally Field - Aunt May
Martin Sheen - Uncle Ben

Coming in:

Yesterday, The Hollywood Reporter stated that four actors are currently testing for the role of Harry Osbourn - portrayed by James Franco in the previous trilogy.  Vying for the roll are Sam Claflin, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth (LOL 2012), and Boyd Holbrook (The Big C, Hatfields & McCoys). You might remember Claflin from the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie and from Snow White and the Huntsman. You'll see Claflin again next year as Finnick Odair in Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Eddie Redmayne will be flexing his vocal chords in next month's film adaptation of Les Miserables.

TerrHimself vs. Batman #14

TerrHimself vs. Batman #14

The Death of the Family story arc started up in #13 and there is no letting up.  If you haven't been reading, Mr. J has been away for the past year and has just come back to Gotham to take apart the entire Bat-Family. And as you can see from the cover of #14, Joker has been doing his homework.

The Joker isn't present for most of this issue, but Snyder and Capullo continue to build tension by making sure that we know that his presence is every where - take a look at Bruce's stereo that Batman uses to a play a cassette tape the Joker left for him. Joker is making things personal and a big question on everyone's mind is just how much does the Joker know? Does he know the secret identities?

This issue gives further evidence that no one can get get under Batman's skin the way the Joker can.  There are a couple pages of Batman talking with Nightwing where Batman barely has a grip on his emotions and speaks through his grinding teeth.

Batman has gotten himself an ego since he's bested the Joker so many times in the past, but as the issues in the New 52 have shown us, Batman isn't as great and all knowing as he has been thinking.  You would think that after the Night of Owls, he'd have been knocked down a few pegs.  Well I guess that's the Joker's job to hammer that point in.

I'm giving this issue a 4.5 out of 5. And that's only because I was less impressed by the back-up story in this issue than I was with the one in #13. If you read #13, then you know what I'm saying.
