Terminators are coming (we hope)

[TerrHimself]

Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures and her brother David Ellison's Skydance Productions will be teaming up for future installments of the Terminator franchise.  After 18 months of doting I's and crossing T's, Megan Ellison has closed a deal to acquire the rights from Pacificor.  According to THE WRAP, the deal includes rights to movies, television projects, home entertainment, video games, and merchandise.
So is Arnold coming back? Will Christian Bale scream at another member of the crew? Do we get to see Summer Glau as Cameron again?

No word yet on the script, writers or directors yet.  Last year, when we heard about a possible Terminator-5, there were talks of it being a "semi-reboot" and that the stars of the first two movies would return. That was also when Justin Lin was said to be attached to this and he is currently busy with his Fast and Furious movies.

Annapurna and Skydance have great resumes so far.  Annapurna Pictures has given us The Master and the upcoming Zero Dark Thirty which is the New York Film Critics Circle's selection as the year's best picture. Skydance Productions has given us True Grit, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, and the highly anticipated World War Z.  It'll be interesting to see if Skydance will eventually take the reigns on this since it seems more up their alley.  Skydance’s Dana Goldberg and Paul Schwake are attached as executive producers.

One of the most interesting aspects of the goings on with this franchise is that with new copyright laws in affect, the rights could revert back to James Cameron in 2019. This might only give the Ellisons time for two movies instead of the original three they had been planning.

Hey, remember when Joss Whedon wanted the rights to the franchise?

We'll keep you updated as things progress.
