Community at SDCC 2013
Community Panel at SDCC 2013
Dan Harmon took the stage as a cardboard and foil Iron Man!
Most of the cast were at the Community panel at SDCC minus Chevy Chase, Donald Glover, and Joel Mchale. The cast made sure to give props to Donald Glover and Joel McHale who couldn't be there. Most joyously, we had Dan Harmon back!
Dan Harmon made sure to communicate that "nobody wants to not fail more than me right now" and he's going to make every episode in Season 5 count!! He really wants six seasons and a movie to happen.
I'm just gonna come out and say it, as graceful and classy as they all tried to be, it was still pretty obvious that they are freaking RELIEVED to have Dan back and were not crazy about how things went last season. Dan actually said nothing but good things about Season 4; however, for someone who is notoriously impolite, his sudden diplomacy becomes a bit suspicious in my opinion. There was even a moment where I thought "OH SNAP" because they so clearly avoided answering stuff about Season 4.
The most important things learned from this panel are that Dan is set on grounding the show again, getting back to the emotional basis, focus on being organic again, and making it as fun as possible.
Dan said that we, the fans, are HIS Levar Burton; he fears he can only disappoint us. That is to say, he cares very much about us and wants to do his best. He says that Community is his Valentine to us.
We MAY have a Dungeons and Dragons 2 next season. MAYBE. There will only be 13 episodes again. The first 5 episodes are set to go and the rest of the season is conceptualized while leaving room for an organic process similar to what they used in the first two seasons. Donald Glover will only be in 5 episodes as he is departing Community. Allison Brie may have made a slip-up when joking by saying "Rest In Peace" in regards to Troy. They covered it up with lots of jokes, but I think it's fair to say it's an accidental clue. We're also going to get one fully animated episode. Dan also confirmed that he is NOT going to undo anything that was done in S4.
Roughly at the 27 minute mark, you can see the cast members give their favorite moments from Community and that's worth watching for the fun of it.
Probably the BEST source of news for the show, came from an interview of Dan Harmon himself with TV Line. You can watch it here; it's only about 10 minutes long. I say watch it! The biggest bombshell was regarding the departure of Donald Glover. Dan said he was devastated and gutted that he has to go, but made it clear that he's fully supportive of what Donald is going to do next. That said, he's going to give the departure of Troy full "eye contact"; it's going to be a tragedy and he will make us "feel all the feels". He's making sure that he makes the best of Troy's presence in his five episodes; and it's going to be a "train of pleasure with a caboose of pain".
I couldn't continue watching Season 4, but I am SO READY for Season 5!!! Bring it!! #SixSeasonsAndAMovie
Cowabunga!
